In 2017 Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it topped the charts for most streamed songs during the course of the space of six months. The mix of reggaeton with pop music not only brought attention back to this genre but it also brought attention to Latin music in general. Billboard's Top 100 featured two songs which were Spanish mostly, and four in 2016. At the peak of Despacito's popularity, however 19 mostly Spanish songs made it into the Top 100, and in 2020 there were 41 of them. Following Justin Bieber's bilingual remix to Despacito (2017) famous artists soon began collaborating with reggaeton musicians, such as Drake with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) as well as Madonna and Maluma for Medellin (2019). The year 2000 saw a number of reggaeton stars were complaining about the genre's direction toward the mainstream but a new generation namely Rauw Alejandro, sought to continue the evolution of reggaeton. It was often associated with electronic dance and other forms.
